As part of offering their clients a complete integrated service Galt Geotechnics recently purchased a 3 m single pass 1750 Scout auger drill mounted on Nissan Patrol. Galt Geotechnics chose the 1750 as an easy to operate and manoeuvrable alternative to larger machines. The little drill allows Galt to add real value to the professional services they offer their clients. Galt’s specific brief to us was to be able to undertake simple auger drilling to 3 m depth in one process without needing to change rods, which we achieved with minor modifications to the standard design.
Galt’s technician can be seen here undertaking soil profiling for a foundation and pavement assessment for a proposed new commercial development in Northam, Western Australia. Galt has been pleased with the performance of the rig and the design brief was met.

Requiring a system to sampling in unstable sandy condition Civiltest purchased a 101 Sampling Solutions octagon drive hollow stem auger (HSA) system through Drillers World Australia in NSW. This system allows them to take samples and do the SPT test required without mud contamination or the installation of casing to keep the hole open while sampling. The Octagon connection not only allows the augers to be reversed, if required, but the shape has better tolerance to dirt than the key drive while still retaining the light weight for ease of manual handling.
